What To Expect At Isla Chiquita Glamping Hotel
- Costa Rica’s First Glamping Hotel: Glamping is a combination of "camping" and "glamor" or camping with amenities, and this is precisely what Isla Chiquita provides.
- A Beachfront Location: Tents are perched on a hill, surrounded by forest and in front of the beach. Access to the island is only via boat. The island is tiny, and the only buildings here belong to the hotel.
- Incredible Food and Service: As a small hotel encompassing an island, the staff at Isla Chiquita can provide more personalized service.
What Not To Expect
- Easy Access To The Outside World: You're on an island here, so it's not so easy to get off it and find a local restaurant somewhere if you feel like it.

Welcome to Isla Chiquita Glamping Hotel!
Do you know what glamping is? According to Wikipedia, glamping is a portmanteau (where you combine two words to make another word) of "glamorous" and "camping." In short, a luxurious way of camping, where your tent has essential amenities more typical of a hotel room than, well, a tent.
There aren't many true glamping places in Costa Rica, but what there is one of the best in the world. Step forward to Isla Chiquita Glamping Hotel, a small resort located on an island in the Gulf of Nicoya, close to the ferry terminal of Paquera. It's the first and only destination of its kind in Costa Rica.
Isla Chiquita is a place for your modern-day Robinson Crusoes of this world, a place for getting close to nature and sleeping within it.
Costa Rica’s First Glamping Hotel
Each tent provides the comforts of a modern hotel room while keeping the excitement of camping outdoors, which means the trees and shrubs loom over your room, and you're sleeping under canvas, but you're also enjoying wooden floors and an en-suite bathroom. The lack of A/C or TV lets you listen to the crickets and frogs singing at night from the comfort of your comfy king-size or double bed.
All tents have spacious, shaded balconies with ocean views and lounge chairs. Some come with private plunge pools to enjoy.
A Beach Front Location
Both the forest and beach are right on your doorstep at Isla Chiquita. You can watch howler monkeys growling and playing in the trees while exploring the island or walking down to the shores of the Gulf of Nicoya. Kayaks and SUP boards are available. So take one out to explore the rich coast around the island, checking out the myriad of birds and fish.
Other activities are available at Isla Chiquita. For example, take an artisan fishing tour with locals and bring your catch back for dinner. Or take a bioluminescence tour. Again, this is one of the few places to enjoy this phenomenon with an expert guide.
Alternatively, head to the mainland to explore the Curú Wildlife Reserve. You can see iguanas, raccoons, and white-tailed deer on your hike. If you want some pampering, the private massage area is also open for a relaxing session with panoramic views of the water and mainland.
Incredible Food and Service
Glamping isn't only a luxurious tent. It's also about great dining and great food. Isla Chiquita has a restaurant and bar area that showcases the best of Costa Rican cuisine blended with international favorites. Tía Nora’s Restaurant is open all day. Enjoy meals prepared with locally sourced food, or request the chef to cook the fish you caught earlier in the day.
For refreshing drinks, head to Harry’s Bar, located in the main lobby area. Eat snacks on the deck, surrounded by almond trees, and order a frozen lime drink to fight the heat. It’s a great place to hang out after dinner with a cocktail.
Isla Chiquita also takes good care of the environment and the island's wildlife. The property is well-kept and peaceful, balancing both guests’ and the wildlife’s needs with environmentally friendly practices. The hotel only uses reusable forms of energy, most of it coming from solar panels.
